(August 4, 2008) – City of Carlsbad Ambassadors, Local Officials and Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Ted Owen will spend a day-in-the-shade while shedding sustainable light on the United States launch of SeaShell Awnings USA, Inc., an Australian-born product line of sustainable self-retractable shade products

The new Carlsbad-based company offers viable solutions to the growing demand for energy-efficient building technologies and sustainable outdoor living. A ribbon cutting ceremony and “down-under” barbeque will be held at the Carlsbad manufacturing and distribution facility at noon on August 14, 2008.

“We all need to consider how to lower our monthly heating and cooling costs,” said Ted Owen, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce President & CEO. “SeaShell Awnings USA does just that, and they will stimulate the local economy with more full-time job opportunities and improve energy-efficient rebuilding standards.”

SeaShell Awnings USA, Inc. is expected to create as many as 300 full-time jobs opportunities by 2010. The United States-based company is the result of the collaborative effort of Solatube founder Global Marketing John Hanley and SeaShell Awnings founder Ken Gale. For more than 20 years, Hanley has revolutionized the innovation of leading daylighting products with Solatube skylights.
