Ribbon Cutting - Metro

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and "down under" barbecue will be held at noon on Aug. 14 for SeaShell Awnings USA Inc., a new Carlsbad company making an Australian-born product line of sustainable self-retractable shade products. The company says its shades offer solutions to the growing demand for energy-efficient building technologies and outdoor living. Ted Owen, president and CEO of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, says the company will stimulate the local economy with more full-time job opportunities and improve energy-efficient rebuilding standards.

SeaShell Awnings USA is expected to create as many as 300 full-time job opportunities by 2010. The United States-based company is the result of the collaborative effort of Solatube founder John Hanley and SeaShell Awnings founder Ken Gale. For more than 20 years, Hanley has revolutionized the residential and commercial markets by daylighting interior spaces with natural light, with Solatube skylights.

"SeaShell AwningsTM is the next wave of green building innovation," says Hanley. "The aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly design will not only revitalize the green building practices in San Diego, but redefine outdoor living."
